As part of the investigations carried out by the kidnapping of four American citizens in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, it has been revealed that one of the main lines of inquiry into the case is a possible confusion.

This was reported by Tamaulipas Attorney General Irving Barrios Mojica at a press conference attended by federal and state authorities. According to the data collected so far, it is presumed that Latavia McGee, Shaeed Woodard, Zindell Brown and Erick James Williams have been mistaken for alleged members of organized crime.

In this sense, Barrios Mojica ruled out it was a direct attack against African Americans. However, he pointed out that there are other avenues of research that still need to be considered.

“There are different lines of research. The origins for which the facts could have occurred have been widely commented on. However, all of this information sharing reinforced the line that this was a mix-up, not a direct attack. It is the most viable and surely the most correct”, explained the public prosecutor of Tamaulipas.

In this sense, Barrios Mojica pointed out that none of the victims belonged to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI, for its acronym in English), as had been reported in the local media. He confirmed that the reason for his trip to Mexican territory was a cosmetic procedure to which Latavia McGee would undergo, who was not injured after the events.

Like James Williams, they were the only ones two people who managed to survive. This man was located with a bullet hole on his left leg. On the morning of this Tuesday, the two were handed over to the United States government at the number 2 international bridge, to then be transferred to a hospital in Brownsville, Texas.

Meanwhile, Shaeed Woodard and Zindell Brown were the American citizens who lost their lives. The handing over of their bodies will be done according to the repatriation protocols. Until the cause of their death has not been revealed.
