He dad francisco launched today a new call for end soon to “cruel suffering” in Ukraineat the end of the general audience held in the Paul VI hall of the Vatican.

“Let us not forget the beloved and martyred Ukraine. Let us pray that they can soon end their cruel suffering.” Francisco said in a new call to stop the war in this country, which will be one year old on February 24.

The Pope takes every opportunity to ask for an end to the war and, during the press conference on his return from his trip to Africa, he reiterated his Offer to meet Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putinand explained that he won’t go to Kyiv because he can’t go to Moscow at the moment.

On January 9, receiving the ambassadors accredited to the Holy See during the traditional meeting at the beginning of the year, the Pope asked “senseless cessation of conflict” in Ukraine and recalled the danger of a nuclear escalation.

Last week Francis encouraged everyone to show solidarity with Turkey and Syria after the devastating earthquake “and in a territory already affected by a long war”.

“I am thinking of the populations of Turkey and Sira hard hit by the earthquake which caused thousands of deaths and injuries and shocked I express my closeness to these peoples, to the families of the victims and to all those who suffer from this devastating calamity,” Francis said during his audience last Wednesday in the Paul VI Hall of the Vatican.

The pope also wanted to thank all those who try to help and encouraged “everyone to show solidarity with these territories already affected by a great war”.

“Let us pray together so that these brothers and sisters can move forward in the face of this tragedy and that Our Lady protects them,” he added.
