The second cabinet change, made by the President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, last Friday after the rejection of the tax reform bill, created a series of controversies, where some parties of the ruling party were affected. Among those most affected was the Liberal Party (PL)because the Chilean president replaced the Minister of Public Works, Juan Carlos GarciaFor Jessica Lopez Saffie. Therefore, this so-called “political earthquake” led to the resignation of party president Patricio Morales, thus assuming Juan Carlos Urzúa, who hinted at friction with the executive.

In conversation with the Chilean media Country Channel, Juan Carlos Urzúa made known his opinion on the spirits that exist in the community, considering that they no longer have a leader in the cabinet. Similarly, the current president of the Liberal Party said he had a meeting “very tense” with the bench of his coalition, since “from the liberal party, we are part of the government, but a part that was not the original conglomerate. In fact, in the elections, we took another candidate (Yasna Provoste) and when she lost, we went with the president (Gabriel) Boric. So logically There are many points on which we align ourselves with the government, not necessarily with the liberal agenda.

”Hey, the bench feels that it aligned itself, at a given moment, without seeing an advantage in it or, more than an advantage, a reward for its loyalty. In the end, more than a reward, it is without being left behind in decision-making. It’s like pain. Basically, the liberal agenda is not in government today.held.

According to the president of the Liberal Party, “they did not feel authoritarian”. ”Our political position is that (the change of cabinet) is a power of the President, he must make the decision (…) but we do not feel considered, despite our demonstrations of loyalty and which have been expressed by many people in many contexts”he stated.

Finally, Urzúa said that “we are part of the government, we are a committed party. Moreover, it must be said that we are a serious party. In this direction, we are not a party that will freak out. What is happening is that within the party there was a thesis of alignment with the needs of the government at all costs”.

On the other hand, the departure of Juan Carlos García from the cabinet, initially, was not envisaged in the original conception of the ministerial adjustment. On this same point, the former secretary of state ruled out feeling betrayed by the president’s decision. “In these accusations, there is no treason, it is not personal. Yes, the president finally made the decision to sacrifice the Liberal Party to the cabinet.”the former head of public works told Chilean media The third.

In this sense, he considered that this situation “It will force us to restore trust with the party in a way that does not rely solely on the Speaker’s personal relationship with the Speaker of the House, Vlado Mirosevicand with the former president of the party, Patricio Morales, but more institutional relations”.

With all of this on the table, he argued that “as a party, we continue to be pro-government, Loyalty to the government is something that cannot be discussed,” although he warned that “what is important when we are so many parties and so many diversities, that the perception that the capricious are rewarded and the faithful punished is not felt”.

On this last point, García denied that it was his impression; however, he noted that “Yeah, that’s something that’s been perceived and raised many times in Congress.”

“It was decided to sacrifice a relationship with one of the most loyal parties, yes, in search of greater political balances. And this loyalty, which endures, will require building other dialogue relationships. I believe that the president trusts and relies on the loyalty of the Liberal Party, but that it will be important to take it back now in another way, ”he condemned.
