Seemingly false fears of a shooting at a rap concert in Rochester, New York, sent a crowd heading for the exits, killing one person and injuring nine others, police said.

The injuries during the Sunday night concert with rappers GloRilla and Finesse2tymes were caused by trampled peoplePolice Chief David Smith said at a Monday news conference. “We have no evidence of any shots being fired or that anyone was shot or stabbed at the scene.”said Smith.

When the concert at the Main Street Armory in Rochester ended shortly after 11 p.m., the crowd began to grow dangerously large, Smith said. The police entered and found three seriously injured women.said.

Nail A 33-year-old woman died in a hospital and the other two women were in critical condition Monday, police said. Seven other people were taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.said Smith.

“What started last night as an evening of live music and fun for performer GloRilla ended in tragedy with one person dead and two others fighting for their lives,” the chef said.

Although there is no evidence of gunshots, Smith said, police are investigating several possible causes, including “possibly the size of the crowd, the gunshots, pepper spray and other contributing factors”.

Mayor Malik Evans called the deadly stampede a “A tragedy of epic proportions” and promised a thorough investigation.

GloRilla, a Memphis native whose 2022 song “FNF (Let’s Go)” featuring Hitkidd was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Performance, tweeted that she was “praying everyone is doing well.”

Evans called Sunday’s stampede an example of “something that concerns all of us who love concerts”.

The mayor, who says he frequently attends presentations by his favorite artists, adds: “If you go to a concert, you don’t expect to be walked on. Your loved ones hope you can come home and talk about your experience at this great concert.”

Deadly waves of crowds have been a recurring disaster at concerts and other major events in the United States and around the world, including a 2021 gig by rapper Travis Scott that killed 10 people.

About 50,000 people had gathered at NRG Park in Houston when the crowd began to jostle as Scott struck, setting off chaotic scenes.

More than 300 people were treated at the scene for minor injuries. on the first night of the two-day Astroworld festival, which Scott helped organize, authorities said. More than 520 police officers and 750 security guards were present for the festival.
