Disney on Wednesday unveiled a new poster for the live action The little Mermaid (The little Mermaid), with Halle Bailey. The story based on the 1989 animated classic and the original tale written by Hans Christian Andersen follows the young princess Ariel on her way to fulfilling a great wish: to know the world of humans. The production will take up the original themes that have made this character one of the most famous in cinema.
“Ariel, the youngest and most defiant of King Triton’s daughters, longs to learn more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, she falls in love with the handsome Prince Eric. While he is forbidden for mermaids to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart, she makes a deal with the wicked sea witch, Úrsula, who gives her the chance to experience life on earth, but ultimately puts her life and crowns her of his father in danger.
In addition to Bailey as Ariel, the cast includes Javier Bardem as King Triton, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Art Malik as Sir Grimsby and Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina. As for the animated character voice cast, Daveed Diggs plays Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay plays Flounder, and Awkwafina plays Scuttle.
The little Mermaid is directed by Oscar nominee Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns) and written by David Magee (Pi’s life), also nominated for the statuette twice. It will be the first time on the big screen that this story will be taken in a live-action format, which other Disney titles such as Aladdin, Pinocchio there Cruel.
The feature film is produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda (hamilton there In the neighborhood), Mark Platt (Jesus Christ Superstar in concert), Rob Marshall and John DeLuca; more Jeffrey Silver (The Lion King) as an executive producer.
