The announcement was celebrated by President Iván Duque, who said that the country could become “the Silicon Valley of Latin America.” He also wrote that the decision highlights “the trust that large companies have for Colombian talent” and for the “Orange Economy policy.”

However, the opposition questioned the terms of the president’s celebration, pointing to the government’s investment in this type of item. “President Iván Duque, surely with a Netflix office in the country, but with only 0.24% of GDP allocated to science, technology and innovation, will we be LATAM’s Silicon Valley?” wrote Congressman Mauricio Toro on Twitter.

Through a statement, Netflix confirmed that this year they will have an office in the Colombian capital.

“Today we are excited to take the next step: a new home in Colombia,” the statement said.
