“Imagine how many versions of ‘Quimbara’ there are. We didn’t want to do one more. Then my friend and great percussionist Marc Quiñones said to me ‘Hey put it in the dirt’, listen how it sounds. So I said ‘wow’ it fits, so we decided. I don’t know where he got his inspiration from and we went ahead; It’s always good to work in collaboration” , said Tony about this topic, emphasizing that this is not just another version.

‘Quimbara’ can be found on all digital platforms, it is part of the first album that Mimy and Tony Succar will present this year. The theme was chosen “because we were finishing the album and we wanted to include versions like this song that my mom featured on ‘La Voz Senior’ and it went viral. We recorded with all the great musicians in Miami because the song explodes in a sauce, and it had to be more the sound from there. Tito Manrique participated from Peru,” explained the two-time Latin Grammys winner.

Tony Succar He pointed out that this project is more than a theme, it’s a special feeling because it was done next to his mother.

“Each time we enter the studio, I am more surprised! It’s like something that God has placed in my heart, you don’t see a son producing his mother every day, and especially at this level. We waited almost two years for this first album, mother and son. We have great collaborations, so it’s very special,” said the musician.

For her part, Mimy pointed out that she is very satisfied with the result, because it has the fusions that she likes, the landó and the sauce.

“I love landó, because it has all the Afro-Peruvian essence, and Afro in fact, guaguancó is Afro-Cuban, but both are descendants of Africa, that’s why I see that they work so well. I am very happy that Tony was able to think of and do this production with Marc and my other son Kenyi, who always puts up-to-date sounds that make everything very fresh,” he said.

“For me, it is an honor to record a song by the Cuban guarachera, the greatest. Celia Cruz has always been my inspiration and when Tony asked me to record ‘Quimbara’ I told him I would love to, it’s an honor,” she enthused.

Regarding the participation of “Melcochita” in the music video, Mimy explained why they included it in this version.

“He was summoned not only because of his gift of people and mischief, but because he represents a very important salsa movement in Peru,” said Tony’s mother, who assured that other musical themes were arriving.

“This record is really going to be an atomic bomb. There are all wonderful songs, with lots of swing. I trust Tony a lot because he is such a perfectionist and my son Kenyi who is also collaborating on this project. I am so happy with my two children, and my husband who is our manager, everyone in the family is very happy”, concludes Mimy.
