It’s been over a decade since Will Smith’s hit, I’m a legend, it was released in theaters, and as we saw recently, in its restructuring, Warner Bros. develops projects that have proven themselves and there appears a sequel to this film. Smith would return for the anticipated film in which he would also serve as the producer.

Actor Michael B. Jordan (black Panther), who will also produce the next feature film. It has been revealed that Akiva Goldsman, who adapted Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel in 2007, is also returning to write the second part of the plot.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Goldsman explained how a sequel to I’m a legend it can be done many years later. All fans of this title know that Smith’s film ends with the main character finding the cure but dying in the process. However, in the alternate ending, Dr. Robert Neville lives to fight another day.

“It will start a few decades later than the first feature film,” Goldsman explained. “I’m obsessed with The last of us, where we only see the world after the apocalypse, but also after a lapse of time of 20-30 years. You see the earth straightening up and there is something beautiful about it, as man moves away from being the dominant inhabitant. It will be mostly visual in New York. I don’t know if they’ll go up to the Empire State Building, but the possibilities are endless,” he said.

The screenwriter also revealed that the upcoming feature film will place heavy emphasis on the alternate ending and not the one that was released in theaters. “We’re going back to Matheson’s original book and an alternate ending instead of the ending published in the original film. What Matheson was talking about was that man’s time on the planet was already over. This is something very interesting that we are going to explore. There will be a little more fidelity to the original text,” he commented.

In a statement, the co-presidents of Warner Bros. Pictures, De Luca and Abdy, called Goldsman “an accomplished producer, a brilliant writer, and a kind, generous human being.” We have known him and worked with him for years, and we never cease to be amazed by his overflowing imagination. We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome him back to the Warner Bros. family, where he has directed some of the studio’s most successful and acclaimed projects.”
