Mexico registers 1,006 deaths and 8,642 new coronavirus infections in one day

Mexico reported 1,006 new deaths from coronavirus covid-19 in the last 24 hours to accumulate a total of 182,815 fatalities, the Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday.

In addition, 8,642 new cases were reported for a total of 2,060,908 infections.

With these figures, Mexico It ranks thirteenth in the world in number of infections and third with the most deaths from the pandemic, behind the United States and Brazil, according to the US Johns Hopkins University.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in Mexico 5.35 million patients have been studied, informed the general director of Health Promotion, Ricardo Cortés Alcalá, at a press conference.

Regarding deaths, the Mexican capital, the focus of the pandemic, alone accumulates 18.7% of the total at the country level.

VACCINATION PLAN

At the conference it was reported that 1,900,784 doses have been applied against COVID-19 so far, but only 475,389 people have received the two necessary doses of the Pfizer vaccine to achieve immunity.

This Wednesday, Mexico City continued the second phase of the vaccination plan with adults over 60 years of age with the biological AstraZeneca in the municipalities of Iztacalco, Tláhuac and Xochimilco.

While in the State of Mexico, immunization continued in the municipality of Ecatepec, a neighbor of the capital, although the vaccination of medical personnel with the Pfizer doses has not yet been completed.

The country, with 126 million inhabitants, has committed 34.4 million doses of the American Pfizer, 79.4 of the British AstraZeneca, 35 of the Chinese CanSino, 24 of the Russian Sputnik V, 10 of the Chinese Sinovac and 51 , 4 from the Covax platform of the World Health Organization (WHO).
