Stephano Carrillo scored twice in Mexico’s crushing 6-0 win over Nicaragua in the 2023 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship Round of 16 clash. Fidel Barajas (18′ 1T), Kevin García (23′ 1T), Gael Álvarez (29′ 1T), Stephano Carrillo (14′ 2T and 22′ 2T) and José Urias (45′ 2T).

A superb play from Mexico, after 18 minutes in the first half, was the one to move the score through Fidel Barajas. After receiving an assist from Gael Álvarez, the midfielder placed it to the left post and below. Impossible for the goalkeeper!

The best player of the match was José Urias. The Mexican midfielder scored 1 goal, made 66 assists, stole 2 balls and looked for the opposing goal 3 times.

Stephano Carrillo also stood out at the Doroteo Guamuch Flores stadium. The Mexican striker scored 2 goals, shot 6 times in the opposite goal and made 10 correct passes.

It was a game with many frictions due to fouls committed in the open field. There was only one card, in the 60th minute of the second half, Joab Gutiérrez received a yellow card.

Mexico coach Raúl Chabrand proposed a 4-5-1 formation with Norberto Bedolla in goal; José Suarez, Kevin García, Luis Navarrete and Javen Romero on the defensive line; Isaac Martínez, Brandon Lomeli, José Urias, Gael Álvarez and Fidel Barajas in the middle; and Stephano Carrillo in attack.

For their part, Tyron Acevedo’s side entered the field with a 3-5-2 pattern with Fernando Moreno under the three sticks; Richard Gómez, Fernando Parrales and Joaquín D Escoto in defense; Lucas Bellomo, Joab Gutiérrez, Alberto Alemán, Marcos García and Stanly Rivas in midfield; and Juban Uriarte and Oliver Bello up front.

Referee Ken Pennyfeather was in charge of overseeing the game at Doroteo Guamuch Flores Stadium.

By beating Nicaragua, Mexico earned their place in the quarter-finals of the 2023 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship.
