MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican immigration authorities have located 343 migrants crammed into the back of an abandoned truck on a highway in the country’s southeast. Among them were 103 unaccompanied minors, mostly Guatemalan, and several families.

As the National Institute of Migration (INM) reported in a statement on Monday, the foreigners, coming from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Ecuador, were located Sunday evening in the state of Veracruz.

The trailer was located on the Cosamaloapan-La Tinaja highway without a driver. The box had a double floor made of metal structures, as well as fans anchored in the lower part and grids on the ceiling.

Authorities added that the migrants “wore colored bracelets as a means of identification”.

Migrants are regularly transported in trucks to illegally cross Mexico and reach the United States.
