The immersive exhibition “Meet Vincent van Gogh” arrives at Campo Argentino de Polo

From diving into his paintings to visiting his studio, even going through each stage of his life. Buenos Aires receives the sample Meet Vincent Van Gogh, an artistic experience that allows you to put yourself in the shoes of the artist. Far from sticking only to facts, data and his works, the proposal invites us to see life through the eyes of the 19th century painter.

Located in the Campo Argentino de Polo, in Buenos Aires, the official exhibition of the Van Gogh Museum of amsterdam features performances of his most famous works such as The dormitory in Arles, recreations of its landscapes and immersive rooms. And even if it lasts an hour on average, the show appeals to take the time to experience art and not just admire it, as is customary.

In addition, visitors will be able to take the tour in the company of “van Gogh himself”, since the experience is designed for the artist to tell in the first person how he lived each of the stages of his life. At the same time, his mother, his sister-in-law and his younger brother Theo – who was a great support for the painter in the most difficult moments of his life – will also intervene through the narration of the letters that were constantly sent to him. .

All visitors to Meet Vincent Van Gogh receive a free audio guide, commented by Vincent and his relatives

There is only one rule in this experiment: “touch”. With the idea of exploring and not limiting curiosity, the proposal seeks for the visitor to feel, listen and move through the experiences of Vincent van Gogh. Thus, you will be able to perceive the essence of pieces such as The starry Night, the potato eaters oh self-portrait.

The exhibition is divided into six stages of Van Gogh’s life: “Early years”, 1853-1879; “Emerging Artist”, 1880-1885; “Emerging Artist”, 1886-1887; ‘In the South’, 1888; ‘Disease and Creativity, 1889-1890; ‘Success’, 1891-present.

One of the main spaces where this sensation can be experienced is the first stage of the “emerging artist”, where the visitor can visit a space set in those years. With chairs and tables from 1880, you can see and touch the items the painter worked with and even see the photos and letters he sent to loved ones. One of them, written on February 14, 1886 and addressed to Théo, noted: “By seeing women, you learn a lot, especially about art.

In this setting, one of the main stops is at the artist’s table where a brief introduction to the use of perspective encourages the visitor to sit down, pick up the pencil and draw some of the landscapes including the artist surrounded himself at that time.

The following artistic staging proposes to appreciate the tonalities of the works, to privilege the color and to highlight the practice of the portrait, one of the artistic phases of Vincent which will begin with the support of neighbors and acquaintances who propose to be depicted on canvas. This is how, seated at a table, a mirror in front of us, the exhibition allows the visitor to take dimension of this method by painting his own image.

Also the possibility of immersing yourself in the famous work The dormitory in Arles. From sitting on that famous red upholstered bed to appreciating the brushstrokes and colors on the walls.

Designed for adults and children, the immersive experience changes the way to immerse yourself in art. It also manages to present another perspective of the artist’s life and connect with him at different points in his life. Empathy is not only realized on the artistic side but also on the human side. As her great-grandson, Willem, has pointed out, her work is distinguished by her search for beauty in everyday objects: “They are everyday things; each person feels identified because their paintings can be your own spaces, wherever you live”.
