The Andrés Manuel López Obrador megaproject will receive 200,000 tons of gravel from the Caribbean island

The Government of Cuba declared that the first shipment of rajón stone is being prepared, destined for Mexico, for the construction of the project of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), Tren Maya, in which 20,000 tons of gravel will be sent.

According to the declarations of Andrés Díaz Guerrero, head of operations of the Central Port Services Company, to the Cuban News Agency (ACN), at least 200,000 tons of stone are already available waiting to be directed to Yucatán.

The first shipment of the material is in open-air warehouses in the Cienfuegos port, a place recognized for having experience in loading construction supplies. Starting with the first vessel, a total of 90,000 tons of Cuban gravel must be supplied month after month, a figure that will increase until it reaches 200,000.

Fidel Viña Cepero, chief of operations of the Engineering Works Construction Company (ECOING 12), explained to the local radio station Radio Ciudad del Mar that these vessels are of great magnitude thanks to the efforts that have been made to transport the material to the piers. He also indicated that sales with Mexico are actions that favor Cuba’s contracting industry.

The gravel that will be exported to the Yucatan peninsula comes from the Arriete quarry, a Cienfuegos municipality in Palmira, material that is transported to the docks by rail.

The federal president recently made a supervisory tour to tour the progress of the megaproject in which he boasted about the work that has been carried out in the sections corresponding to Grupo Carso.

Through his Twitter account, Andrés Manuel shared a photo showing the progress on the rails where the train will pass; a section that has an extension of 554 kilometers.

“The rails for the 1,554 kilometers of the Mayan Train are being laid, even at night. This photo is from the section in charge of Grupo Carso ”, public the Tabasco president from his profile.

During his tour to the states of Yucatán and Quintana Roo at the beginning of December, the head of the Executive power explained the care that has been taken in the construction of the Mayan Train in order to preserve and safeguard the region’s biodiversity, characterized for being an entity that more flora and fauna abounds.

His tour was accompanied by the governor of the state of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama, as well as the Secretary of National Defense, Luis Cresencio Sandoval, and the general director of the National Fund for Tourism Promotion, Javier May.

The president also pointed out that the southern mega-work will be ready for its inauguration in 2023; a feat that should be recognized by the joint efforts of Mexicans.

“Although it seems incredible, we are going to inaugurate the Mayan Train next year (…) “with its 1,554 kilometers, with all the stations, whereabouts, with all the infrastructure, including the new airport,” explained the president through a video posted on their social media.

The work that is expected to be inaugurated next year has been one of the most criticized projects of President López Obrador, for being an initiative that threatens the biodiversity of the Yucatán peninsula. Situation that has been counterproductive in the progress of its construction.
