WASHINGTON (AP) — Self-help writer Marianne Williamson has launched an impossible new bid for the White House by becoming the first Democrat to challenge President Joe Biden for the 2024 nomination.

In 2020, Williamson sought the Democratic presidential nomination for which he had appealed more to his outlandish pleas for spiritual healing than voter support.

“We’re upset about this country, we’re worried about this country,” Williamson told a crowd of more than 600 on Saturday as he launched his campaign in the nation’s capital.

“It is our job to create a vision of justice and love so powerful that it overcomes the forces of hate, injustice and fear.”

The 70-year-old author, who was once a spiritual adviser to Oprah Winfrey, will represent only token opposition in the primary election, a sign of strong Democrat support for Biden nationally.

Either way, Williamson shoved the president, who was a longtime Amtrak flier, with an allegorical thumbs up as he held his campaign rally in the marble-pillared Presidential Suite at Union Station. , the main Washington Railroad Center.

Biden pronounced on his own speech from the Union Station after the election of November, which contributed to the fact that the democracies were surprisingly disappointed because he urged the voters to reject the political extremism and affirmed that the “democracy misma” estaba stakes.

Williamson, whose red, blue and black campaign signs bear the slogans “A Fresh Start” and “Hack the System,” said he will campaign in early voting states in the 2024 election calendar.

That includes New Hampshire, which has threatened to challenge a Biden-backed Democratic National Committee plan to make South Carolina the starting state for the nomination race.

Democrats and Republicans in New Hampshire have warned that if Biden bypasses the state’s unauthorized primary and a challenger wins, the outcome could embarrass the president, even if the challenger has no realistic chance of winning the nomination. .
