Luisa Regina, the girl who survived her family’s massacre at a Guanajuato resort

At least seven people, including a child, died following a filming in a spa in Cortázar, state of Guanajuato. Louise Regina, a girl between 6 and 7 years old survived; allegedly he saw how his parents were murdered.

Two people survived: a man already stable in a hospital and the daughter Regina who, according to some media, saw her parents killed.

Because the minor’s fate was unknown after the attack, her next of kin shared her photo in Facebook and WhatsApp groups, asking for help in locating her.

Hours later, they tracked her down and confirmed that her parents and other relatives had died in the armed attack. Subsequently, the girl’s godfather began broadcasting a message asking financial support to help Luisa Regina.

“With the permission of my uncles. The Torres family Sanroman and Prado Torres appreciate their support since there were 3 brothers, my brother (compadre) and a couple of cousins,” said the minor’s godfather, in order to cover the funeral expenses of the seven deceased.

According to the owner of La Palma Spa, located next to the Polytechnic University of Guanajuato, in the La Fortaleza neighborhood, the hitmen fled after opening fire, “without first damaging the spa store and take the security cameras as well as the monitor”.

After the armed attack, security forces from all three levels of government went to the scene and implemented an operation that included the helicopter deployment to locate possible culprits.

“The municipal government regrets the events that have occurred and will provide the accompaniment corresponding to relatives of those affected, also reiterating the willingness to cooperate with the competent authorities while waiting for those responsible to be brought to justice”, reported the municipal authorities of Cortázar.

A witness shared on social media a video he recorded after the shooting, where he said about 20 armed subjects burst into the spa, leaving several people dead.

“It was strong. there were gunshots, deaths at the spa. She was a bitch, hit men came, like 20 bastards, there was gunfire, high powered guns, it’s really not worth coming to live with your family and killers have arrived, it’s a real mess, the truth got out of hand this,” the subject said while observing the crime scene and a crying child in the background.

Guanajuato is one of the most violent entities in the country, since in 2022 more than 3,000 people were murdered in the region, becoming the highest number of homicides in the past year.

The shooting at the water park this weekend adds at least eight massacres so far in 2023 State of Guanajuato. The most recent happened on April 11 in Dolores Hidalgo.
