The government has declared an emergency in 233 districts across the country due to heavy rains.

He National Emergency Operations Center (COEN), an organization subject to the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci), warned this Tuesday that in the next few hours the entire department of Lima will experience rains of moderate to extreme intensity.

The event, which would take place from this afternoon until Wednesday 1:00 p.m., could cause flooding, the activation of ravines and landslides, according to an official statement.

If necessary, the phenomenon will affect other provinces such as Barranca, Cajatambo, Canta, Cañete, Huaral, Huarochiri, Huaura, Oyón and Yauyos. For Lima, the alert is heavy rain N°073 (red level), according to the National Meteorological and Hydrological Service (Senamhi).

In the letter, Indeci called on local and regional authorities to “verify that escape routes are clear and properly marked to direct people to a safe area away from the river bed or streams.”

He also asked to provide for the availability of health centers, firefighters and police stations in the jurisdiction, in case of emergency.

“It is recommended to unplug and move away from electrical appliances, as well as cut off the power supply if there is a risk of water entering your home; do not take refuge under poles or electric cables and do not touch them under any circumstances, ”continues the text.
