Nearly $ 43.7 million will be invested in the Labatt brewery in Montreal, funding that is an integral part of the new investment plan of $ 110 million that will be paid to Quebec by 2022.

This is announced on Monday by Les Brasseries Labatt du Canada, which plan to implement a new packaging system in Montreal.

“We are proud of our history in Quebec and we look forward to continuing our commitment in the province with this important investment which will improve our activities and which will have considerable benefits for the environment”, explained in a press release André Gravelle, director General of the Montreal Brewery, Labatt Breweries of Canada.

The sum reserved for the brewery in the metropolis will thus allow the implementation of the KeelClip packaging, which uses a fixing made from recycled cardboard and which offers a substitute for plastic packaging. According to the company, this new system will reduce the Montreal brewery’s plastic use by nearly 100,000 kg by early 2022.

The company has also indicated that it wants to reduce its use of single-use and recyclable plastic by 242,000 kg by 2024.

Three new tanks will also be installed to increase brewing capacity in Montreal.

“This investment comes at an important time. We are now able to manufacture our most popular products in larger quantities and we now have the flexibility to adapt to the preferences and changing tastes of Quebecers, ”explained Mr. Gravelle.

The remainder of the planned investment across Quebec will be devoted to activities such as distribution, technology upgrades and commercial initiatives.
