San Salvador, February 20. Representatives of some 8 organizations in El Salvador demanded justice on Monday in the case of Beatriz, a young woman who had already died and who in 2013 was prevented from terminating her pregnancy, declared to be at high risk.

The Beatriz Platform, which brings together these women’s and feminist organizations, on the occasion of the World Day of Social Justice “calls for justice”, since “the concept of social justice transcends that of legal justice and is based on the defense of equal opportunities, the fight against discrimination and the defense of the rights of all”.

“Beatriz and her fight for life uphold these ideals of social justice, as she has been a victim of the deep marginalization and discrimination against young, poor, rural and sick women that is prevalent in El Salvador,” the Platform said in a statement. press release shared with EFE. . .

He stressed that “Beatriz’s story strengthens us to continue to seek justice, as the Inter-American Court is expected to issue a resolution condemning El Salvador for violating its right to health and life in March.”

“Today, almost 10 years after Beatriz challenged Salvadoran laws with her trial (…) we celebrate her life, her strength, her courage and we demand justice for Beatriz and for all Salvadoran girls and women” , she added.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) presented last January to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (CourtHR) the case of Beatriz, a young Salvadorian woman who, in 2013, was prevented from interrupting her pregnancy, which was declared high risk.

The young Salvadoran seized the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) of the Central American country, which refused her an abortion.

Later, she gave birth to a daughter by caesarean section, but the newborn died because she had no brain.

According to a document from the Inter-American Court, the case calls for “the international responsibility of El Salvador to be declared for the violation of the rights to life, personal integrity, judicial guarantees, privacy, equality before the law, judicial protection and the right to health”.

Also that the Salvadoran State be declared guilty of “violation of the Inter-American Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of Torture and the Convention of Belém do Pará”. ECE
