In an interview with Azucena Uresti, the mayor spoke about the cancellation of the festival, since the day before the participants in the beauty contest that would open the carnival they dropped out of the contest in solidarity with the recent acts of violence and demanded that security actions be implemented.

Despite this, Humberto Salazar denied that it affected the plans for the festivities, which caused great controversy. And in an interview with the journalist, he justified himself by indicating that he was doing it for the recovery of the economy.

“My vision for Jerez is to protect our citizens but I am also interested in economics”, he assured the reporter, since one of the main reasons he insisted on the event taking place throughout the conversation with Uresti, was because of the monetary benefits it would bring to its inhabitants.
