Maize is one of the crops affected by the drought

The losses estimated in Santa Fe as the current season of fine grains, coarse grains and pulses would reach $3,429 million due to the impact of drought. This is according to a report published by the Rural Society of Rosario. It should be remembered that so far the territory of Santa Fe is one of the most affected by the unfavorable climatic situation, where only 20.39% of the territory is not dry, according to the latest report from the Drought Information System for Southern South America (Inside).

Guillermo Farbmanagronomist and agricultural collaborator in the report published by the Rosario entity, assured GlobeLiveMedia that “the work carried out has to do with an estimated loss of some 3,400 million dollars that the agricultural sector of the province of Santa Fe would have on based on historical data the averages are planted, harvested, yield and production after doing a comparison by department to see what outcome the drought problem might bring.” Among the departments in Santa Fe with the highest losses are General Lopezwith 864 million USD, followed by castellanoswith 437 million dollars, San Martinwith 278 million dollars, Colonies, with $258 million; And home madewith $200 million, among other districts.

For the preparation of the report of the Rural Society of Rosario, the specialists took into account the data collected in due time by the Ministry of Economy, through the agricultural estimates carried out by the area of agriculture, as well as the reports of the Office of Agriculture Risk (ORA). , technical studies by the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), and crop survey carried out by CREA groups, among other private reports. Furthermore, it was clarified that The document that was presented does not consider the impact of the lack of rain on livestockwhere the north of the provincial territory is going through a complex moment.

According to Farbman, “there are millions of dollars that will not come into Santa Fe and grain will not be produced because of the drought. In the case of legumes, such as peas or lentils, yields report a very low level of 3 or 4 quintals. There are also poor results in wheat and sunflower, in due course, in the central north of the province, the yields are low and the oilseeds have a very low fat content. In the case of premium soybeans, they generally have the highest yield, but they have been the most affected by the drought. The formation of the chaucha has been affected, the plants are low and the number of chauchas it should have is not there. The maize even suffered from the severe drought, where today the maize is misshapen, small and seedless for early maize.”

Farbman said when assessing the late crop situation, both soybeans and corn, “yields are probably better but there won’t be any bumper yields, because in Santa Fe there’s there is still a drought and we hope there will be no frosts in March. In the latest official reports, no crop has improved with the last rains in the humidity profile. For this reason, with high temperatures, there will still not be enough water” to promote the development of coarse grains in late crops. “Thus, in the case of late corn, and second-tier soybeans, there we will have a drop of at least 15 to 20% due to the continuity of the drought”, he concluded.

Meanwhile, since Confederation of Rural Associations of the Province of Santa Fe (CARSFE), the scope of the aid measures for cattle breeding announced by the Minister of the Economy has been criticized, Sergio Massa, as he described the package of official measures as “a big cloud of smoke”. In a statement, the leaders said: “The announcements that the national government constantly issues on all issues related in one way or another to the campaign are improvisations for purely propaganda purposes, which is to more and more obvious and open.”

On the other hand, the Santa Fe entity mentioned that “there were announcements that Banco Nación would set up aid for producers to access credit and ease the conditions in the face of the crisis caused by the drought. In this respect, we inform you that the branches of the banking establishment have not received any directive in the sense proposed and that they have no response to the questions addressed to them. An announcement that sought only the fantasy of management and goodwill on the part of the national government.
