Ica declares an epidemiological alert due to the increase in dengue cases. (Andean)

Dengue fever cases nationwide continue to rise. According to data provided by the National Center for Epidemiology, Prevention and Disease Control of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), a total of 11 thousand 585 cases have been reported. This figure represents an increase of more than 70% compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the Ica region the trend of new cases is on the rise. In this sense, the Regional Directorate of Health (Diresa) of Ica announced the declaration of epidemiological alert in the province of Ica, since it concentrates 151 cases out of the 238 reported in the region. That is to say that more than 50% of the registered cases correspond to this province.

Meanwhile, in Chincha 40 infections have been identified, in Pisco 24, in Palpa 7 and in the province of Nasca 16.

A few days ago, a case of dengue fever was detected in the hamlet of I put the Zegarras, jurisdiction of Pueblo Nuevo neighborhood, in the province of Ica. Immediately, the health authorities ordered the fumigation of the surrounding houses for three consecutive days, in order to stop the spread of dengue fever in this area, according to the coordinator of the metaxenic and zoonotic health strategy of the Ica health network, Jose Chacaltana Hernandez.

Likewise, the representative of the Ica health network indicated that since October last year they have been programming house-to-house visits to check that there are no mosquito breeding sites in homes. In addition, health personnel are also responsible for applying larvicides to containers that contain water in homes to eradicate mosquito larvae that transmit dengue fever.

In this sense, he called on the people of Ica to do not leave containers with water to prevent them from becoming breeding grounds for mosquitoes. “In areas where people have to collect water for consumption, they have to brush the walls of the tanks where it is stored to remove the eggs that the mosquito leaves attached,” he explained.

He stressed that it is the responsibility of families to frequently wash, brush and cover water tanks and not just wait for health personnel to visit homes.

To continue actions to prevent and contain the spread of dengue fever, Chacaltana Hernández said that They will ask for a higher budget. to avoid further outbreaks that put the region at risk.

Meanwhile, health personnel in the Ica region continue to perform action tracking of the different sectors, as well as the collection of samples for the respective analysis in order to control the spread of the mosquito that transmits dengue fever.

Up to epidemiological week 6 (February 5-11), 11,585 dengue cases and 16 deaths have been reported.
