The Oslo-based NGO Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO) warned on Monday against the danger of “mass” executions in Iran if “serious” measures are not taken and there is “urgent” action against the Tehran regime.

Iranian authorities publicly executed Majid Reza Rahnavard, the second prisoner convicted for his involvement in the protests rocking the country, despite international criticism after the first protester was hanged last week.

The convict was hanged in public in the holy city of Mashad after he was sentenced to death for the murder of two security agents, the Mizan agency of the Judiciary reported.

“The public execution of a young protester, 23 days after his arrest, is another serious crime committed by the leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran and a significant escalation in the level of violence against the protests,” IHRNGO said in a statement. .

According to this organization, Rahnavard’s sentence was based on forced confessions after an “unfair” process and a trial described as “showcase”.

IHRNGO warned that there are “thousands” detained in Iran, nine other prisoners have been sentenced to death and “dozens more” have been charged with the possibility of hanging.

The riots began due to the death of a 22-year-old Kurdish girl after being detained by the Morality Police for not wearing the veil properly, but they have evolved and now the protesters are calling for the end of the Islamic Republic founded by Ayatollah Ruholá Khomeini. in 1979.

In the almost three months of protests, 458 people have died and there are at least 15,000 detainees, according to the latest IHRNGO count.
