Nail Family from Buenos Aires out of four people must spend $11,144 a day to cover a consumer basket corresponding to an average social stratum, according to a calculation by the Center for Education, Services and Consumer Advice (CESyAC) based on data from January of this year. The figure is reached by calculating a base basket of domain there services for a family that rents their house, owns a car, pays for prepaid drugs, their children go to private school and are members of a club.

Along with rising inflation, the Cost of life for Argentinian families is moving full speed ahead each month. The INDEC consumer price index measured a 6% increase in January at the national level, the same level as in Greater Buenos Aires. The Department of Statistics and Censuses of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires has its own price index which increased by 7.3% during the same period. In both cases, beyond the methodological differences, there was a significant acceleration in the first month of the year.

The CESyAC figures, on the other hand, follow a distinct methodology which seeks to establish an average price of goods and services for a type of family of the city of Buenos Aires, considered “intermediate sectors» depending on the level of consumption of the products and services included.

Of the total amount of $11,144 estimated daily by the report, $2,929.98 is up for grabs high consumption products and $8,214.10 to hire the basic household services. The cost of living for one day in Buenos Aires rose 5.51% in January, a slowdown from the 19.3% jump it had given in December according to the CESyAC methodology.

The basket of food and services for the first month of the year thus stood at a total of $334,322.06. The change in the FMCG category recorded an increase of 11.74%. The basic services category, meanwhile, increased by 3.46% The largest increases in the FMCG category were those of cleaning products (9.74%) and fruits and vegetables (5.26%). Within the Basic Services category, the largest increases were in fuels (4%), ABL payments (6.20%) and expenses (16%).

Meanwhile, in interannual terms, the basket of this middle-class family has increased by 76.22%.

The CESyAC basket, although with less data collection power, has an advantage over the usual report on income and social stratification published by the Department of Statistics and Censuses of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and it is that it assumes a typical family that has expenses associated with renting and using a car.

The town, on the other hand, is part of a typical family of four who own their home. It also collects data from other model households, such as seniors, one-person households, and young couples. But only in the latter case the variable of the hire enters the scene. Thus, at least for a “typical” family of four members, the rental charges remain isolated.

According to City data, a family therefore needed $8,110.43 per day or $251,423.21 per month to have an income corresponding to the “middle sector/middle class”. During the month, this cost increased by 6.9%.

The CESyAC data reveal a basket for the intermediate sector also for the City of Rosario. In monthly terms, the typical family of four needed $235,583.39 to live on last month. Of this number, $90,907.28 was needed for the purchase of consumer products, while $144,676.11 had to be allocated to basic domestic services.

The numbers for a Rosario familytranslate into needs of nearly $7,853 per day.
