As every year, as part of the International Women’s Dayfeminist groups and thousands of Mexican women called to demonstrate with the intention not only to condemn and demand justice for the victims of gender-based violence that permeates every corner of Mexican territory, but also to call for change.

Under this tenor, it is no secret that the weariness that violence has generated in the lives of Mexican women motivates them today to express their anger through pints, riots or acts that they wrongly labeled vandalism instead of iconoclasmterm for the destruction of symbols or monuments for political or ideological purposes.

Faced with this challenge, the government led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador protected by imposing metal fences -from the days before March 8- some of Mexico City’s most representative monuments and buildings among which the Angel of Independence and the National Palace stood out.

This measure was rejected not only by Mexican women but also by some critics of the so-called Fourth Transformation, the influencer being Chumel Torres one of the first to launch an acid criticism directed at the chief executive in Mexico.

The acid commentary of the driver of The impulse of the Republic then came during his traditional morning conference, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador was asked about the shielding of buildings and monuments in the Mexican capital in the face of protests called for International Women’s Day (8M).

At first, the president of Tabasco was ironic about two senators from the National Action Party (PAN) who complained about the installation of metal fences: “Now it turns out the PAN is feminist, look at the level of hypocrisy“, he pleaded.

Similarly, the Leader of the Executive has accused right-wing conservative groups of being able to infiltrate “vandal” demonstrations.

“Why put up the fence? Because it is very violent, the right is always very authoritarian and violent (…) They are able to infiltrate vandals. What they want is to destroy the Palace, they take it, so that there is a note”, accused Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Despite this, before the president of Tabasco made his decision on shielding buildings and monuments, Chumel Torres once quipped about ‘preparations’ for the so-called Fourth Transformation on International Women’s Day share a video in which we can see the arrival of the trucks with the billboards at the Plancha del Zócalo in the capital.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador was not the only one to be criticized by the popular influencer and since last March 5 Chumel Torres had mocked the meeting that the head of the government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, had held with women who work in her administration.

During this event, the president of the capital called women “warriors who open transformative breaches in public life in Mexico” and accompanied her message with the hashtag #WomenMakingHistory.

After said publication, the influencer and comedian reacted by republishing the video of the meeting and again ironically on the shielding that the government of Mexico and the federal government have put in place in front of the demonstrations of 8M.

“Literally the avocado (AMLO) He’s going to put up giant billboards that daysaid Chumel Torres.

Although the driver of The impulse of the Republic He gained popularity for his controversial criticism of the current government, on this occasion his opinion was not so well received by users on social networks, who reminded him that she’s the person least able to talk about the feminist movement when he was singled out and denounced more than once by engage in gender-based political violence.
