The Organization of United Nations (HIM) called on the Mexican authorities for a prompt and impartial investigation on the violent events that took place in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, where five people were killed by lethal use of force by members of the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) in the early hours of February 26.

“The use of guns should be the last resortproportionate to the legitimate aim pursued, with full respect for and protection of human life. All Military Use of Force Deaths Must Be Investigated independently by civilian authorities,” the UN said in a March 1 statement.
He also alerted the authorities to take action to protect survivors and witnessesas well as human rights defenders linked to the case.

Likewise, the UN has highlighted the repetition of similar actions in Nuevo Laredo in recent years, which is why he has insisted on the need for objective analysis of the conditions in which force was used.
