Guillermo Lasso

In the sectors of legislative opposition to the President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, the possibility of declaring it is analyzed mentally incompetent for the exercise of the post. This maneuver aims to allow his dismissal, in case the Constitutional Court declares inadmissible the reasons of the legislative report which promotes the dismissal of the Ecuadorian president.

A plenary session was convened on the morning of 4 March. The Ecuadorian Congress, called the National Assembly, is made up of 137 deputies who have gathered to debate and vote on reports presented by the two legislative commissions set up to investigate the same corruption scandal that has plagued the Ecuadorian government. One is made up of members of the opposition assembly and the other is made up of representatives from various legislative caucuses.

But the Accused This is not the only option discussed by opposition factions in the Ecuadorian parliament. Even the legislator Mireya Pazmino aseguró en una rueda de prensa que, si acaso el juicio no pasa por el filtro de la Corte Constitucional, que es el órgano que qualifica la procedibilidad del juicio político, la oposición y discusses la posibilidad declarar en incapacidad mental al presidente o de derrocarlo in the streets. This already happened in 1997 when the president was sacked Abdala Bucaram for this constitutional reason.

Here the serious problem is Guillermo Lasso, and there are many ways to get rid of this problem“, affirmed the lawmaker Pazmiño who also threatened that “if the Constitutional Court does not respond to the country, we also have the streets and the Ecuadorian people will rise up, but the solution must be found”.

The Truth, Justice and Anti-Corruption Commission is proposing the impeachment of President Lasso, saying he has committed crimes against national security, embezzlement of public funds and even obstruction of justice. For now, the votes to approve the report are led by the blocs of the Unity for Hope (UNS), the Christian Social Party (PSC), their allies expelled from Pachakutik and some Democratic Left (ID), in addition to other independent legislators linked to the Speaker of the Legislature, Virgil Saquicela. They would all tally about 80 legislative votes out of 137. At least 91 votes are needed for impeachment if impeachment is successful.

Pazmiño, representative of the province of Bolívar, was harshly questioned by her fellow legislators and by public opinion after she included false information in the work of the opposition commission. This is a screenshot of an alleged message written by Leonard Cortazar, pointed out by the National Assembly’s Control Commission as the link between the management of opaque funds intended for campaign financing and the Albanian drug trafficking mafias. In the fake post, Cortázar claimed he had ties to Guillermo Lasso’s presidential campaign. But the latter himself denied the message shortly afterwards.

Fernando Villavicenzadeputy of the Parliamentary Anti-Corruption Front of the Ecuadorian Congress, said on his Twitter account that the opposition commission investigating the case took part of his investigation report as evidence, but without citing it and that he omitted all information available on social networks in which the links between Leonardo Cortázar and the correista presidential candidate are verified Andres Arauz there Carlos Rabascall.

Villavicencio stressed that the opposition commission does not have the power to appropriate the legislative report of the Parliamentary Anti-Corruption Front that he heads and that the latter has the evidence that would show the meetings held by the president and the high command of the police through which she would have become aware of the facts which would qualify certain offenses possibly qualifying her dismissal.
