Guadalajara (Mexico), March 4. Chivas del Guadalajara beat Santos Laguna 2-0 on Saturday to add their fourth consecutive victory in the Clausura 2023 Mexican soccer tournament, which lifted them to third place in the standings.

On the tenth day of the tournament, Víctor Guzmán and Fernando Beltrán scored for the side led by Serbian-Spanish coach Veljko Paunovic, who reached 21 points, four behind leaders Rayados del Monterrey; Santos is eighth with 12 units.

Chivas dominated the first half and at minute 17 they took the lead on the scoreboard when Roberto Alvarado took a corner from the right, made a pass with a team mate, to score a serve that Guzmán headed to the far post to make it 1-0.

Santos Laguna continued undisturbed by Guadalajara, who made it 2-0 to 45+1 with a mid-range volley from Beltrán which, after being deflected by a defender, made it 2-0 .

Lagos failed to react in the second half and Chivas managed to turn the result into a win, but goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo stopped shots from 52-year-old Fernando González and 72-year-old Carlos Cisneros.

Two hours earlier, champions Tuzos del Pachuca snatched the unbeaten record from Águilas del América, who hadn’t lost in over a year at the Azteca stadium, beating them 0-3.

Also on Saturday, Argentine strategist Nicolás Larcamón’s León beat San Luis 2-0, with Brian Rubio and Héctor Uribe scoring in discounts.

Matchday 10 will end this Sunday when Puebla visit Pumas UNAM and Toluca visit Gallos Blancos del Querétaro.

The games started last Friday with Tigres UANL winning 0-1 over Necaxa and Mazatlán FC 3-1 over Cruz Azul, in addition to Tijuana’s 1-1 draw with Atlas.EFE
