Germany has “broken” the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic, its Health Minister Jens Spahn said on Friday, adding that the vaccination campaign was progressing well.
“We have broken the third wave,” Spahn told the media, adding that about two-thirds of those who wanted it had received at least a first injection of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Lothar Wieler, director of the Robert Koch Institute for Infectious Diseases, said polls showed that about 73% of the German population wanted to be vaccinated.
Wieler also said that the number of people in intensive care units was declining. However, it is too early to lower our guard, he added, urging citizens to be careful during the summer.
