BERLIN — A judge has ordered the arrest of a 27-year-old Eritrean man after an attack on two students in southwestern Germany that killed a 14-year-old girl and seriously injured a 13-year-old girl, authorities said Monday. Tuesday.

The man, accused of attacking teenage girls as they went to school in the southwestern town of Illerkichberg, refused to speak when appearing before a judge at the hospital where he was treated for injuries sustained during his arrest shortly after Monday’s attack. He was transferred to a prison hospital, prosecutors said.

So far, investigators have found “no information indicating a political or religious motive for this crime,” said Thomas Strobl, interior minister for the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg.

Two other men detained Monday have been released, prosecutors said.

The morning attack on the two girls walking to the bus stop sparked widespread shock and outrage.

The girl who died had family roots in Turkey, and the Turkish ambassador to Germany visited the family in Illerkirchberg to pay his condolences, authorities said.
