MEXICO CITY (AP) — Caroline Garcia was dominant again on Friday, beating Egypt’s Mayar Sherif 6-0, 6-4 to reach the Monterrey Open semifinals.

The Frenchwoman, who is fifth in the world, did not give up a single set in Mexico and her rivals could not win more than four games per set.

Garcia, 29, will face Belgium’s fourth seed Elise Mertens, who beat Italy’s Isabella Cocciaretto 6-2, 6-2, in the semifinals.

The French tennis player is looking to reach her second final of the season after losing in Lyon to American Alycia Parks.

In the other bracket, third seed Donna Vekic beat Belgium’s Ysaline Bonaventure 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(5) to advance to the semi-finals.

The 26-year-old Croatian has improved to 10-2 so far this season and will face fifth seed Linz Zhu of China, who beat American Caroline Dolehide 6-3, 6-2.

Vekic is looking to reach her first final since the San Diego Open last October, when she lost to Iga Swiatek.

Zhu, 29, is looking for his second final of the year. Previously, she came to Thailand, where she defeated Lesia Tsurenko for the only title of her career.

The Mexican Monterrey Open takes place on the hard courts of the Sonoma club in this city located in the north of the country and distributes $250,000 in prize money.
