PARIS, March 7 (Reuters) – One of France’s biggest unions, Force Ouvrière, has asked aircraft maker Airbus to renegotiate part of an existing wage deal to account for high inflation, a new sign of pressure increasing wages in European industry.

The French union said in a letter to Airbus that the current pay deal, which runs from July 2022 to July 2024, allows talks to be reopened for the second half of this period once again known to the economy.

“In view of the latest inflation figures, which show a strong disconnect, we ask you to reopen wage negotiations for 2023-2024 as soon as possible,” the union wrote in a letter to Airbus dated February 22.

Consumer prices in France rose 6.2% in February compared to the same month a year earlier, according to INSEE.
