There Main road to Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) was inaugurated by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) and the Governor of the State of Mexico, Alfredo del Mazo Maza, in order to expedite the transfer to or from Mexico City.

During the conference on February 16, the president presented the new 14.1 kilometer route which will be completely free and it will reduce travel time for passengers who need to arrive at the Santa Lucía terminal.

“With this work it is possible, among other things, to arrive at the airport, well done, of quality, of excellence, you arrive with Good times from central Mexico City (…) in addition to shortening the deadlines, these works make it possible to direct the urban development of the Valley of Mexico”, presumes the president.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), from the municipality of Ecatepec to AIFA will take about 9 minutesand the historic center of the capital would be approximately 30 minutes without traffic.

“Now they say 9 minutes, no, I say 10, 10 minutes from Ecatepec to here, and from Ecatepec to the center a maximum of 40 minutes,” AMLO said of the inaugurated route.

The main route to AIFA is from Iron bridge in Ecatepec at the terminal Glorieta; is also known as Tonanitlla Highway that connects the Mexico-Pachuca highway and will benefit thousands of users.

To access this free option, from Mexico City you will have to go to Insurgentes Norte to Indios Verdes, to then enter the Mexico-Pachuca highway, as you would normally do to get to AIFA.

However, motorists should follow the junction with Via Morelos take it later diversion to Tonanitla, where you must continue along the free highway (without toll), until you exit at the direct access to Santa Lucía Airport.

From Ecatepec or any other point, drivers must reach the junctions that connect them to Stay tuned go to the AIFA.

The toll-free highway allows a service capacity of up to 40,000 vehicles per day; To three lanes in both directions, to prevent the flow of vehicles to this area from being loaded.

According to the authorities, the road will benefit 2.5 million peoplemainly to those who live in the municipalities of Ecatepec, Tecámac, Tonanitla, Nextlalpan and Zumpango, as well as those who travel from Indios Verdes towards Pachuca, towards the road to Morelos.

Jorge Nuño, head of SICT, said that with this route and others that have been inaugurated towards AIFA. the “excuses” on the distance and the delay to arrive at the AIFA should decrease.

For his part, the President of the State of Mexico recalled that last week the works of the second floor of the road dispatcher, located at the main access to the airport, were completed.

He celebrated that the area where AIFA was built benefited from the increased industrial and commercial activity, which will also be privileged with this new route that shortens transfer times and is also free.

Other routes that will connect the emblematic work of President López Obrador to the capital will be the Río de los Remedios corridor, the expansion of the commuter train, as well as the Naucalpan-Toluca highway. The recently inaugurated road has cost the public treasury 7 billion 500 million pesos.

So far, AIFA has 13 national and four international routes: Caracas, Venezuela; Panama, Panama; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; and Havana, Cuba.
