Francisco Barbosa gave some of his views on President Gustavo Petro’s treatment of justice

The Attorney General of the Nation, Francisco Barbosa, participated in the public hearing of the “Bill by which penal and penitentiary policy is humanized” in the First Committee of the House of Representatives. In it, he delivered statements on various aspects of justice in the country, amid reforms and policies that have been described as permissive with crime.

In addition, he specifies which are the sanctions which should not undergo modifications, “We have a reflection on the type terrorism criminal and conspiracy to commit a crime. We also have a comment about a provision that we see in the Office of the Prosecutor as a way to benefit drug dealers In this project.”

The administration of Gustavo Petro has been controversial in several respects, in terms of justice, his reform project has generated mixed opinions, in particular because of the possible impunity that the president would grant to several of the country’s criminals in order to advance your project total peace, among other goals.

In the facilities of the legislative power, Barbosa pointed out that the reforms of President Petro could generate significant effects in the medium and long term, this with reference to two specific aspects.

The first, for the impunity with drug traffickers, since the Attorney General considers that the criminal acts that would end up benefiting drug traffickers and criminals in Colombia should not be humanized and, secondly, because of the reproduction of the illicit crops in the country.

“We cannot tolerate being told that drug traffickers are going to profit from it (…) The articles that appear there, one deals with drug trafficking and the other with the supplies that are needed. They put us a paragraph where you are suspend execution punishment for drug traffickers,” Barbosa said.

Regarding the growth of illegal crops, the prosecutor described the policy of the Head of State as permissive, moreover, he assured that the prospects are worrying, “the program or the benefit of the small producers it must refer exclusively to the provisions therein, but it cannot refer to the large drug traffic, ”prosecutor Barbosa explained in his speech.

However, he did not show himself in total opposition to the intentions of the Colombian president, he even assured that he still has confidence that the policies which could benefit drug traffickers, finally they would not be executed.

“I continue to believe the president and I continue to believe in the institutional idea that they don’t want to conduct political negotiations with drug traffickers, so we refuse to lift the arrest warrants for extradition, because the rule of law speaks through its institutions,” Barbosa said. in Congress.

The Attorney General provided some data on the current state of coca crops, in addition to production levels that have been denounced both internationally and nationally. According to Barbosa, it would be 30 tons per month that drug traffickers currently produce in the country. Regarding the seizure, he assured that in cities like Barranquilla “it’s a cocaine party”.

While the prosecution announced that nearly 300 cocaine labs In the country, the non-seizure of these products has once again increased the rate of production of the narcotic, “we have 356 outstanding arrest warrants against the assassins of the reinstated, human rights defenders, and the relatives of the reinstated”, he added. .

Regarding the project of Law of submissionHe was also critical and assured that he does not achieve the objectives set by the current head of state. “In the submission bill, not a word for the victims, not a chapter, not a title, the victims have disappeared, the human rights defenders have disappeared, the murderers are no longer captured, one from them even kidnapped 3 prosecutors in Tarazá”, assured Barbosa.

Finally, in a debate that bordered on moralityBarbosa expressed his disagreement with some of the justice reforms, among which, incest“It’s not Norway, it’s not Finland. Decriminalized driving, normalized driving. Colombia is a country where we find ourselves in a situation of lack of protection”, declared the head of the Colombian public prosecutor’s office.
