“This very extreme temperature trend which is repeated at the beginning of the climatological autumn it is caused by a semi-steady circulation pattern, commonly referred to as a blockage. The South Atlantic anticyclone is strongly intensified on the surface, providing a northerly wind and humidity in the center of the country and atmospheric locking conditions in the middle and high levels of the atmosphere on the central band of the country, prevent the entry of colder air into the region, favoring persistent very high temperatures for the period of the year and giving rise to the development of this very intense and late heat wave”, they explained.
