The commander of the Ayolas volunteer firefighters, José Mutti, said this Friday that the recorded rains extinguished the forest fires in the area. He highlighted that they had a job of almost 50 days because of the forest disasters.

“We can say that the fires we had were extinguished and in part thanks to the rains we had in the last few hours. At some moments there were 12 to 14 fires per day and the work in almost 50 days was quite intense,” said the commander in communication with 800 AM radio.

He argued that at the time there was a lot of smoke in the city because of the forest fires, but currently the situation is very different because the rains extinguished the fires and currently the air is much better than previous days, where the pollution was very high.

Mutti indicated that volunteer firefighters are currently in a stage of verifying their equipment, after almost 50 days of intense work in combating forest fires, which were more intense in rural areas of the city of Ayolas.

“At the time we had a lot in the city, but today we already have a much cleaner environment and we breathe something better. Some hoses were burned, but we have the support of the Yacyretá Binational Entity (EBY) that will help in the replacement of these work elements,” added the captain of the volunteer firefighters.

As a result of the large-scale fires that were developing in companies and other areas of Ayolas, the Municipal Board declared an environmental emergency at the time to take measures and deal with forest fires, which are currently extinguished.
