Facundo Manes, Radical MP

The meeting of former President Mauricio Macri with the radical MP Facundo Manes in the fifth Los Abrojos, on Saturday evening, the detainee of Juntos por el Cambio overheated and aroused strong criticism within radicalism, which makes the neuroscientist the strongest presidential candidate to fight in PASO against the governor of Jujuy, Gerardo Morales.

Anger on the part of the UCR leadership was unleashed when the legislator’s entourage declared that it was “a meeting between the PRO leader and the radical with the most votes” and that Macri encouraged Manes “to be the presidential candidate for radicalism”. ”.

Morales has better relations with the head of government of Buenos Aires, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, who launched his candidacy a few days ago. And Manes has chosen to move closer to Macri despite the public differences they’ve had lately. This is precisely what has caused unease among the leaders who respond to President Jujuy. “We cannot dialogue with those who try to impose a single thought”, they suggest.

Asked about it, Manes assured that Saturday’s meeting was “very good and constructive”. in dialogue with the radio The Web remark: “You have to dialogue to find that the differences do not become disqualifications and develop better alternatives to this government, which is very bad”.

“The differences we have in Together for Change are small compared to the challenges we have in rebuilding the country,” Manes explained, somewhat surprised by the repercussions of his encounter with Macri.

“It strikes me that a new kind to comply with what we demand: that there is a dialogue. Our country project is different from that of the PRO, we have our identity, we will propose it in the PASO and people will choose the appearance of the tea party”insisted on his presidential aspirations, although he has not yet officially launched himself as a candidate.

One of the main reasons would be, precisely, that he is waiting for a definition from Morales since there is great speculation that he would be Rodríguez Larreta’s running mate.

In this sense, he was very critical even if he avoided giving names. “Many talk about cross formulas. For me they hide the lack of vocation of leadership and it is an excuse to continue to be companions as it happened between 2015 and 2019″, he remarked in reference to what happened between Fernando De la Rúa and Carlos “Chacho” Álvarez, Cristina Kirchner and Julio Cobos, and Alberto Fernández and Cristina Kirchner. “Cohesion must be given by a program, not by the candidates”sentenced.

Although Macri has yet to define whether he will seek to re-occupy Rivadavia’s chair, for Manes he is still in the running. “I haven’t met anyone retired. He didn’t give me that impression.”he warned.

“We speak as the leader of the PRO and new leader with a base of 1.3 million votes in the Province. We had a respectful dialogue, we are aware of our differences and we are aware that we have different perspectives, but We agree on a common path for Argentina’s future and face prosperity.”he insisted.

During the radio interview, Manes expressed concern that UCR “can’t have the front role” because “there is a new radicalism that wants to obtain space for leadership”.

He also recalled that between 2015 and 2019 Together for Change was not a serious snack. “It was a parliamentary alliance but not an executive one. It doesn’t work anymore. There must be an agreement between the political spaces because there has been a maturation of certain leaders”, reflected the radical deputy.

While in the PRO they wait for the former president to return from Europe and officially communicate what will happen to his future, Manes assured: “If Macri is a candidate, I will not go down. I represent another space. The PRO has its internal, its novel and that makes the internal opposition pay because today we cannot win with the classic voter of Together for Change. We have to expand the coalition, we have to do what we did in 2021: talk to young people or popular sectors who never voted for Cambiemos. We are an alternative to the failure of the Frente de Todos and the frustration of the PRO”.

“We will convince those who are disillusioned with PRO and Peronism to soft k. Our main concern is the young people and the middle and upper strata who are leaving the country. I will work to improve the living conditions of the resigned”, concluded.
