The plenary of the Senate of the Republic resumed this Wednesday, February 22, the discussion on President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s Electoral Plan B, with the aim of dismissing the “eternal life clause”, which was to open the door to parties like the PT and the Greens could transfer votes, through alliances, which would guarantee registration.

The discussion began with the reading of the substance of the opinion approved since December 15, 2022 in the Chamber of Deputies.

After more than two months, the document was finally presented to the plenary session of the Senate, since the joint committees of the interior and the second legislative studies agreed that the reform of article 12 of the law on institutions and procedures elections (Legipe) is unconstitutional. since it contravenes the provisions of Article 72, Section E of the Constitution of Mexico.

Dante Delgado, leader of the Movimiento Ciudadano, pointed out that with the elimination of the said clause, López Obrador’s plan B on electoral matters would be officially approved and announced that his party would present a challenge to reform, since it is undemocratic .

The PAN stressed that the electoral reform promoted by Morena must stop: “It is for the good of Mexico and of democracy. What the president wants is to perpetuate himself in power and we cannot allow that”.
