The revised sculpture of Dwayne Johnson
After ridicule and criticism, the revised sculpture of Dwayne Johnson is back in the traditional Paris wax museum.
The statue of the star actor and one-time wrestling star was to be admired again on Wednesday, the Grévin museum confirmed. The wax double had to be reworked because “The Rock,” the ring name of the U.S.-Canadian performer, was not satisfied with the result.
On Instagram, the Hollywood star (“Fast & Furious”) had asked the museum to make improvements, starting with his skin color. With a winking emoji, he added that the next time he was in Paris, he would stop by and have a drink with himself. The 51-year-old is the son of African Canadian wrestler Wayde Bowles.
The Musée Grévin had removed the sculpture from the visitors’ circuit on Monday evening. According to information from the museum, a darker complexion had been worked on day and night. The 51-year-old has shown a lot of humor in all this. On his Instagram profile, he posted a video of entertainer James Andre Jefferson Jr. It looks like “The Rock” has never seen the sun, he says in it. He looked like English soccer star David Beckham and a member of the royal family.
The museum also earned ridicule on the web: “The Rock” looks as if he had liver failure, read one comment, in another the wax figure with the folded arms is compared to the household cleaner “Meister Proper”. The sculpture was inaugurated on October 16.
The Grévin Museum, which receives some 800,000 visitors a year and features more than 250 celebrities, had already caused a stir in 2018 when it presented what it said was a less-than-successful sculpture of French President Emmanuel Macron. The production of a wax figure takes up to six months and costs between 50,000 and 60,000 euros.
