ACAPULCO, Mexico (AP) — Alex De Minaur defeated Taro Daniel 6-2, 6-2 Thursday night to reach the semifinals of the Abierto Mexicano de Tenis.

The Australian, seeded eighth in the Mexican tournament, will face the winner of the match between Matteo Berrettini and Hulger Rune, which took place later.

De Minaur, 24, advanced to the quarter-finals for the third tournament in a row. Before, he did it in Rotterdam and Marseille.

In another result, seventh-seeded Tommy Paul beat Mckenzie McDonald 6-2, 6-2 in an American racket duel to reach the semis.

Paul, who was a semi-finalist at the last edition of the Australian Open, will face the winner of the quarter-final match between Taylor Fritz and Francis Tiafoe, which took place later in the day.

These clashes guarantee that an American will play in the final of the Mexican tournament for the third time in history. Fritz was a finalist in 2020 and Monarch Sam Querrey in 2017.
