The National Center for Disease Epidemiology, Prevention and Control (CDC Peru)an entity attached to the Ministry of Health (Sometimes), announced the end of the fifth wave of COVID-19 in Peru. This after the start of this health crisis was confirmed on December 2.

Caesar Love, chief executive of the CDC, provided more details on the reports that occurred during these almost more than two months of this stage. In this sense, he reported that from the beginning to “SE06-2023” there were 319,212 cases and 1,932 deaths.

He also explained that the fifth wave reported lower numbers compared to previous ones. In other words, the lethality of the coronavirus represented 0.61 per 100 confirmed cases. After week 48, there were decreases, with 30.6% less than the previous seven days.

The headline also confirmed that the most affected age group during the fifth wave was the elderly, with 1.52 cases per 100 inhabitants. While 2.35 deaths were recorded per 100 cases.
