March 2 (Reuters) – A consortium made up of Turner Construction Company, a subsidiary of Spain’s ACS, and Yates Construction has been selected by Panasonic Energy to build an electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant in the United States, as part of of a $4 billion project.

In addition to the assembly facility, this phase will include the construction of a powerhouse and support buildings.

The battery manufacturing plant, located in De Soto, Kansas, “is a key part of Panasonic’s investment in the United States to expand battery production capacity for electric vehicles,” Turner said on his website.

The plant is expected to begin production at the end of March 2025, reaching around 30 GWh (gigawatt hours) of annual production capacity.
