the parliamentarian Adrian Tudelafrom the bench advanced countryextended a proposal with the aim of achieving “neutrality and proportionality” in the integration of the commission of inquiry – from the Congress of the Republic– who will investigate the deaths that occurred during the demonstrations.

The parliamentary body must “determine the presumed criminal and political responsibilities for serious violations of human rights such as the life and physical integrity of citizens and law enforcement agencies”.

The Tudela initiative called for reconsider the formation of this working grouphowever, he did not obtain the necessary votes to pass his candidacy.

“There investigative committee who is formed must seek to discover the truth, the circumstances in which these tragic deaths occurred, leaving aside any ideological bias,” the legislator said during the plenary session.

In this context, he added that the wording of the agreement proposed by the motion “clearly indicates that there are certain ideological prejudices and that they have already determined what the responsibilities are.

“It’s not starting from a neutral point that is absolutely essential,” he said.

Despite this, of the 66 memberships they needed, only 58 were obtained and, on the other side, 38 members of Congress voted against, plus one abstention.

“As a result, the corresponding procedure will continue,” commented the President of the Congress, José Williams Zapata (advanced country).

The commission of inquiry will also have a period of ninety calendar days to carry out the relevant proceedings.
