Monterrey (Mexico), 27 Feb. Colombian Duvan Vergara converted an 84th-minute penalty on Monday to save Monterrey’s 1-1 draw at León, helping the Rayados cement themselves as leaders in Mexican football’s Clausura 2023.

Argentina’s Lucas Di Yorio converted with a 14th-minute forehand cross from Colombian Jaine Barreiro, after which Leon managed the lead well.

In the final part of the match, Vergara scored the draw and claimed Monterrey in first place with seven wins, one draw, one loss and 22 points, four ahead of Toluca, Tigres UANL and Chivas de Guadalajara, their closest pursuers.

This Sunday, Chilean Jean Meneses and Paraguayan Carlos González scored for Toluca, who beat San Luis 2-0 and quietly surged to second place with a better goal difference than Tigres and Guadalajara.

This Saturday, in one of the most anticipated duels of the day, Chivas de Guadalajara led by Spanish Serbian coach Veljko Paunovic beat Tigres UANL 1-2 in their own stadium and took their unbeaten record, in addition to climbing to fourth place.

In one of the most striking results of the ninth date of the championship, Argentines Lisandro López and Alexis Canelo scored a goal each on Sunday to give Tijuana a 2-0 victory over champions Pachuca.

Pachuca started better, but after 25 minutes coach Miguel Herrera’s Xolos imposed conditions and reflected it on the scoreboard.

In the 26th minute, López finished with his left foot in the corner to make it 1-0 for the home side, who extended the lead in the 30th minute, with a right-footed shot from Canelo after an error by the Argentinian goalkeeper. Oscar Ustari.

The ninth day began this Friday, when Pumas UNAM beat Mazatlán 1-2, with scores from Argentina’s Eduardo Salvio and Juan Ignacio Dinenno, while Colombia’s Nicolás Benedetti bowed out for the losers.

Before, Querétaro had drawn 1-1 at the Necaxa stadium, thanks to a goal from Colombian Christian Rivera.

In another duel, this Sunday Santos Laguna beat Puebla 3-2.
