Bogotá, 28 Feb. Hundreds of Colombian teachers marched this Tuesday in Bogotá in a demonstration called by the Colombian Federation of Education Workers (Fecode) to demand better teaching conditions in the country.

The president of this union, Carlos Rivas, explained to EFE that the mobilization of teachers consists of putting forward the list of demands in which they demand from the “government of change” the “treatment” that “teachers deserve, that they deserve the education and what Colombian democracy deserves”.

Rivas also referred to the dismissal of Alejandro Gaviria as Minister of Education, news announced by President Gustavo Petro on Monday, to say that he did not give them the possibility “to have a synergy to be able to develop proposals for public education”. “.

In this sense, he criticized the fact that in the ministry led by Gaviria “there was more of the same: there was no change or transformations, which we believe the president has just achieved”.

IMPROVEMENTS IN EDUCATION

The march called by the educators began in the government of Cundinamarca to deposit the list of demands of the teachers of this department, who then mobilized with the Ministry of Education to deposit a second national list.

Several teachers’ associations from different regions of the country were present at the mobilization, shouting “Get out with Hernando Bayona with his neoliberal government policies!” Get out, get out!” They demanded the departure of the Deputy Minister of Education.

The vice-president of Fecode, Christian Rey Camacho, told EFE that they expect the government “to be close to the teaching profession and to respect the objectives that we have set ourselves, which are the defense of public education and the rights of educators”. .”

Another of the members of the Fecode, Nelson Javier, expressed his desire to “concretize once and for all” the reform of the resources intended for basic and secondary preschool education “to close the gaps of inequality that exist today”. .

He also concluded that educational infrastructure, connectivity, school meals and school transport must be improved to ensure that all young people and children in Colombia have these rights guaranteed and “that they can have a better quality in their education”. .
