A Colombian citizen is among those killed in the riots in Ecuador’s prisons on Tuesday. This was reported by the Colombian ambassador to Ecuador, Manuel Enriques Rosero, in an interview this Friday with the Colombian media BluRadio. The diplomat indicated that at the moment they do not know what locality the deceased Colombian was from and for what crime he was locked up.
The Ecuadorian authorities affirmed that the serious acts of violence in the prisons were the result of the confrontation between criminal gangs that compete for control of the drug business in Ecuador.
According to the latest report from the National Service for Comprehensive Care for Adults Deprived of Liberty and Adolescent Offenders (SNAI) of Ecuador, at least 78 people died after acts of violence registered in the prisons of 4 provinces of the country.
