Cold Front number 28 has caused at least eight trailer overturns in Oaxaca

In the last 24 hours, the gusts of wind that exceed 180 kilometers per hour, generated by the Cold Front number 28 , caused the overturning of eight lightly loaded trailers on the La Venta-La Ventosa highway , on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, in the state of Oaxaca.

In this section, where the wind gusts exceed 200 kilometers per hour, similar to a category 3 hurricane , the winds are capable of overturning heavy vehicles that venture to defy the meteorological effects or are unaware of its danger.

And it is that the Cold Front 28 began to suffer from this February 4 in this region of the south of the country, when the overturning of three tractor-trailers was registered and as the winds did not stop during this Saturday they overturned five more units, fortunately without No deaths or injuries were reported.

In a statement, the regional delegation of Civil Protection (PC) informed at 5:30 p.m. that the passage of trucks with light loads was restricted in the 17-kilometer section, corresponding to the towns of La Venta-La Ventosa, due to the effects of the gusts of icy winds that will persist during the next 48 hours.

“There is an operation there, the passage is not restricted, but they are given preventive measures and they make the decision here. Regularly when empty and large boxes come, it is when they hit directly and this type of accident occurs. Fortunately, no one has perished, it has only been material damage,” Cutberto Ruiz Jarquín , a meteorologist with Oaxaca Civil Protection, told Televisa news.

Given this forecast, dozens of carriers sheltered their units under bridges and at gas stations where they stop in groups to prevent the wind from blowing them over.

One of the injured drivers, Pedro López , told the agency that he was traveling with his brother from the state of Chiapas to the center of the country, and seeing the intensity of the gales, they decided to circulate each in their unit paired in the same lane . , but the wind ended up overturning them both.

The overturning of these two units occurred this Saturday afternoon when the wind gusts exceeded 200 kilometers per hour.

According to the inhabitants of La Ventosa, which is the closest inhabited area to the intense zone of the winds, in the last two years the intensity of the winds has been felt more strongly in the region.

Even in this area of ​​Oaxaca, wind companies take advantage of the force of the winds to generate clean energy destined for the center of the country , a situation that socially and politically confronts the inhabitants of municipalities such as Juchitán and Unión Hidalgo.

The Cold Front also causes high waves of two to three meters on the coast of Oaxaca and the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and due to this, the Civil Protection authorities urged riverside fishermen to protect their boats to avoid human and material losses.

Also in the Sierra Norte region, where a drop in temperature of up to two degrees Celsius is expected, Civil Protection recommended citizens to wrap up warm and not light stoves inside their homes to warm up because this practice has caused deaths from intoxication. in the winter.
