In recent days, the national government has announced that it has started the transition to citizen income, a subsidy with which it is sought that the most vulnerable families in the country have incomes above the poverty line.

This is how the Petro Government’s Citizen Income Grant works: Colombia’s neediest households will receive $500,000

The Ministry of Social Prosperity recalled that to access financial aid, families must be registered with Sisbén IV

With this initiative of the national government, it seeks to reach more than three million homes Colombians, with a monthly bonus of up to 500 thousand pesos.

According to the director of the Department of Social Prosperity (DPS), Cielo Rusinque, the transition to this program will begin in April, with the first turns, but it will be done gradually.

Without knowing the definitive article. some sectors are already beginning to worry about the changes that large amounts of capital would represent for companies

This Tuesday, the manager spoke to RCN News about the details of this new social initiative. According to what Rusinque said, here are some specifics that citizens should take into account regarding the subsidy:

Cielo Rusinque clarified that this program is focused on families who are in extreme poverty according to the measurement of Sisbén.

New details on the death of the priest in Medellín, it would not have been due to scopolamine

Initially, it was speculated that the cause of the priest’s death was due to a cocktail of alcohol and scopolamine. Forensics guarantees that there is no trace of substances in the results

Thus, households must know which Sisbén group they belong to in order to apply for the subsidy if they are among the beneficiaries.

According to the Director of Social Prosperity, the Citizen Income will be for people who are part of Sisbén, but especially for citizens classified in the group Avulnerable households in which there are minors and mothers who are heads of households will also be given priority.

“Recipients are going to see an improvement in their income, up to 3 or 4 times more than what they traditionally received,” Rusinque said in the interview.

“Right now I appeal to the public, because we use the 4-4 methodology which measures multidimensional poverty, it is much more complete, and I invite families who have not done this new survey to update themselves precisely and we have the possibility of having updated data,” the official said.

As mentioned, people will only be able to access this benefit if they are part of the system for identifying potential beneficiaries of social programs, that is, Sisbén.

Although this is the only requirement, Rusinque explained that the goal is to concentrate and optimize resources. For this reason, “households in extreme poverty will receive the 500,000 pesos (Group A). But already looking at group B, We will look at the joint responsibilities that already exist and this will be measured by the number of children per household”.

According to Cielo Rusinque, many households will be able to receive 340,000 pesos per month. Others, in which, for example, there are two or three miners, will receive up to 500,000.

Although the database of families who can access this type of social programs in Colombia already exists, the official indicated that this benefit will focus on the most vulnerable.

“It’s an effort to maximize the proper allocation of resources and the impact on places where extreme poverty is concentrated. Prioritize families headed by a mother head of household. A policy that is very much aimed at children, but which will also allow, at the national level, to dignify and improve this transfer system,” he explained.

Cielo Rusinque pointed out that what is done This is a modification of this program. What is proposed is to provide support, which is sufficient, but which also does not become a problem that makes the citizen dependent on this resource.

“What we are doing and the president has been given powers in the National Development Plan is to rethink this policy, because we want to completely get out of this perspective of well-being, which made the beneficiary eternally dependent and enslaved to certain resources, otherwise insufficient. . We want to bet on a sufficient income, which is at least above the poverty line and which allows people to get out of these situations”, explained the director.
