He Cervantino International Festival (FIC), one of Mexico’s most important cultural events and the largest performing arts event in Latin America, will feature UNITED STATES and with the state of Sound as guests to celebrate its 51st edition. October 11 to 29 in the town of GuanajuatoGuanajuato.

The presentation of the event took place in the last days of February during a press conference at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, where the Governor of the State invited, Alphonse Durazo there Ken Salazarthe United States Ambassador to Mexico.

“I welcome the United States and Sonora to the the largest cultural festival in Latin America“, expressed Mariana Aymerich, director of the festival and general director of Promotion and Cultural Festivals.

“There are a lot of hopes and illusions placed on this edition and with these wonderful guests of honor I am sure that we will meet the expectations of the public. It will be a meeting full of tradition and origin, avant-garde and diversity”

For his part, Durazo celebrated that 50% of the events are free and thanked the invitation and the possibility that the State of Sonora coincides with the United States, a country with which it borders. He takes the opportunity to come out in favor of the existence of a border culturewho described it as “a migrant culture”.

It was the turn of Ambassador Ken Salazar, who in taking the floor recalled the visit of the President Joe Biden in Mexico in January and reiterated that the relationship between the two countries “is forever.”

Likewise, the Secretary of Culture of Mexico, Alejandra Frausto, was present and addressed her speech of the power of culture against discrimination and highlighted the migratory phenomenon that has been increasing in recent years between Mexico and the UNITED STATES.

“We cannot be apart of the moment we live as sister nations and the commitment to culture is essential. Against barbarism, culture is the way”

In 2022, during the 50th edition of the festival, the guests were South Korea and Mexico City, with whom a calendar of activities that filled the city of Guanajuato for 19 days of various artistic and cultural disciplines such as dance, music, literature and theater, among others.

The programming, concerts and art exhibitions planned for the festival should be released soon. Similarly, it is possible that more activities will take place in Mexico City. At the moment, it should be noted that the call for the elaboration of the image of the 52nd edition of the FIC will be open until March 24 and the amount of the prize is 30 thousand pesos.

The city of Guanajuato is considered one of the most beautiful in the country, it has been recognized as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO and is proud of its mining past. Year after year the FIC is held in this city, the main objective of this celebration is a cultural offer focused on different audiences.

Throughout their 51 years, they have managed to build a space for dissemination that promotes national creation “opening the Cervantine stages to Mexican artists, seeking the dissemination of cultural wealth”.

The Cervantino usually includes activities, discussion forums and shows that address topics of enormous relevance: social and geopolitical order, concern for the planet, migration, tolerance, coexistence, new technologies of communication and globalization, in a context of promoting our roots.

According to data published by the Ministry of Cultureit was in 1953 that Enrique Ruelas, a cultural promoter, staged the Entremeses Cervantinos, a tribute to the Spanish novelist and playwright Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, considered one of the greatest figures in Spanish literature. Since then, this international festival has been held every year in Guanajuato.
