Buenos Aires, February 15. After his 6-2, 4-6 and 6-2 victory against Serbian Laslo Djere (57) in the round of 16 of the Argentine Open, Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz said that “he has a lot of room progress” but that “it was good” for their first game of the season after a four-month hiatus.

“The truth is that for me it is a pleasure to be in Argentina. I expected love but not so much and I felt at home. It is appreciated and it has helped me a lot d ‘to have this environment,’ the 19-year-old from Murcia told a news conference.

“Returning to competition is not easy. I go to every tournament with the aim of winning it. My first game of the year after four years was a great game but far from my usual level. Beyond the beatings, there were several moments that I couldn’t manage. And that’s given to you by the competition that helps you know how to handle it in certain ways. The rhythm between the points is given by having played several games and that’s what I miss”, analyzed the current world number two.

“I felt very good. I played at a good level but I have a lot of room for improvement. The only way to improve is to play games. Little by little it will get better. Playing in front of legends as Gabriela Sabatini is a source of pride”, added the tennis player who has five titles to his credit and who is playing the ATP 250 in Buenos Aires for the first time.

“I wanted to play this tournament. Even if it becomes 500, it will depend on last year’s schedule as it is very close to Australia. I love this experience to see if I can repeat it but for now I feel comfortable,” said Alcaraz, who in the quarter-finals on Friday will face fellow Serbian Dusan Lajovic (90).

“Since the first training session, I have felt the love of people everywhere. It’s good that so many kilometers from your home you feel at home, it’s spectacular”, completed the last champion of the ‘US Open, who was not present at the Australian Open due to injury. ECE
