Cam Newton wants a new opportunity.
The 2015 NFL Most Valuable Player announced on social media that he will launch pro scouts at Auburn University’s pro day on Tuesday, looking to return to the league.
A free agent, Newton led the Auburn Tigers to a national championship in 2011 and was the first draft pick that year by the Carolina Panthers.
He spent 11 years in the NFL, the first nine with the Panthers. Newton turns 34 in May. He hasn’t played in the league since 2021, when he returned to Carolina mid-season for a second stint, a move he later admitted wasn’t the best move of his career.
He started 0-5 with Carolina upon his return and was benched for the final two games of the season by then-coach Matt Rhule’s decision.
Newton is 75-68-1 as a starting quarterback in the NFL and has rushed for more touchdowns than any player at his position in history. He passed for 32,000 passing yards and 194 touchdowns during his career.
Newton’s last full season was in 2020, when he played with the New England Patriots. He went 7-8 as a starter with eight touchdown passes and 10 interceptions.
His best season came in 2015 when he received MVP honors, combining for 45 touchdowns and leading the Panthers to Super Bowl 50, in which they lost 24-10 to the Denver Broncos.
